About Us

Guelph Youth Basketball Association

The Guelph Youth Basketball Association (GYBA) was formed in 2006 through the unification of seven (7) previously existing basketball clubs in Guelph. The mandate was to unite youth basketball under one umbrella in order to provide the best coaching, facilities and overall organizational support to the greatest number of players in our city. This philosophy is what drives us to provide the best quality basketball programs to Guelph and surrounding area youth.

The Guelph Youth Basketball Association (GYBA) are a registered not-for-profit corporation established to administer a community-based basketball program to engage all interested participants in a quality athlete centred experience, and to insure that the mission and goals of the program are followed. We are governed by a volunteer board that exists to provide young people in our community the opportunity to participate in programs that teach fundamental basketball skills, as well as very important life skills.

Starting in September of 2016, the Guelph Youth Basketball Association will be proudly partnered with the University of Guelph Gryphons Athletics for 10 years. During this 10 year partnership our 600+ youth from the Guelph area, ages five to eighteen, will wear the same colours and logo as the Gryphons men's and women's varsity teams. With this new partnership, not only will players from the Guelph Youth Basketball Association teams be outfitted in Gryphon apparel, they will also receive the following benefits:

  • Discounts on all Gryphon Camps
  • Free Entry into all Gryphon Ticketed Home Games (Excluding Football Homecoming and/or OUA Playoff Games)
  • Coaching and Mentoring from Current Gryphon Coaches and Student-Athletes
  • Games & Tournaments in new Guelph Gryphon Event Centre (Beginning in September of 2016)

The Guelph Youth Basketball Association will still be built upon two pillars, but will be operating them under two different names: the Jr. Gryphons Development Program, formally known as Hustle House League, which is a 9-Division Recreational Program for boys and girls ranging in age from 5 to 18 years of age, and the Gryphons Rep Program, formally known as Phoenix Rep, which is our competitive rep program.
