1916

You could now dribble to shoot.

1923

Prior to this year foul shots were awarded for such things as traveling with the ball and double-dribble. In 1923 these were changed to violations meaning only a change of possession, no free throws. - foul shots have to be taken by the person fouled

1929

The offensive player is required to move the ball in five seconds

1932

With the court divided into two halves a 10-second time limit for a team to advance the ball from their back court into their front court was established. This rule was implemented in addition to the five second rule to aid in the reduction of stalling tactics that had become popular in the 1920's as players became more proficient at dribbling the ball.

This rule did prove effective.

1935

The three second rule took effect, prohibiting offensive players from staying in the lane for more than that interval.
