1936
Players were allowed to be substituted at any break in play.
Elimination of the jump ball after every basket to speed up play. Because
the clock ran during the repeated center jumps , it was estimated that the
elimination of the practice would add nine to twelve minutes of play to
each game.

The colour of the rims changed from black to orange

The lane or "key" was changed from 6 feet to twelve largely in part to the effect that a brash new star "Wilt Chamberlain" was having on the game of basketball.
