Through the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program, participants are instructed to learn and understand the fundamental skills in the game of basketball. The game can be divided into the following: footwork, ball handling/dribbling, passing/receiving, shooting, rebounding, offense and defense. As well, an important component of the Steve Nash Youth Basketball program is to help young people in their overall development. Different life skills are taught throughout the program to provide a powerful positive influence on all participants. Some of these topics include: fair play, teamwork, education/career, health & nutrition, mental training, etc.

5.What is the cost to join Steve Nash Youth Basketball?

The program cost is $115.00 and includes a basketball and a Steve Nash reversible jersey as well as 16 sessions and a season ending banquet.

About Steve Nash Youth Basketball

Steve Nash Youth Basketball is a national youth basketball initiative designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love of the game for basketball. This grassroots program supports and empowers community-based recreational groups and facilities, schools and other institutions across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through basketball. The goal of the program is to allow participants the opportunity to maximize their potential, while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline and self-esteem.

The model for Steve Nash Youth Basketball was established after extensive research of existing community basketball programs from across North America and follows the guidelines of Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). The program is flexible in nature to allow local organizers to adapt the program and implement it in their community while following its principles and philosophies.
