Phoenix Program Time Commitment
The rep basketball season runs between the beginning of October to April for players under 14, the beginning of December to the end of May for girls aged 14-19, and the beginning of March to the end of May players for boys aged 14-19. Teams may get together socially or for informal practices before the season on an optional basis. The absences policy described below only applies to official practices.
The Phoenix teams typically practice or play games 2 nights a week for 1 to 2 hours each and participate in traveling tournaments. Coaches and players must fulfill their commitment to attend practices at least fifteen minutes before their time and be at least half an hour before game time during the season.
An annual registration fee is assessed to fund most of the expenses of the program. To supplement the registration fee, GYBA sponsors the “Guelph Youth Basketball Association Tournament” scheduled for both the boys and the girls Phoenix teams. The dates of the tournament will be available at the mandatory parent meeting in October. Each family is responsible to work a minimum of 2 hours per player, selling tickets, selling concessions, or timing and scoring. If a player’s parent cannot attend his/her shift, it is mandatory that he/she make their own arrangements to cover working the hours with adults or responsible high school students. A fee as determined by the GYBA may be collected at the beginning of the year. If this commitment is not fulfilled the family will not receive the fee back at the end of the year. The program depends on the tournament profits and registration fee to cover the cost of gym time, registering coaches, uniforms, equipment, tournament fees, referees fees, try-outs, custodial fees, printing and mailing costs and other miscellaneous expenses.
Cost: $425 per participant
