Phoenix Cancellation policy

Once a player agrees be part of a Phoenix team by signing their name on the OBA team registration form (or equivalent) they are committing to play for that team and removing the chance for another player to join. Our budget is based on 12 players on each Phoenix team, so the removal of a player presents a financial burden to the club and thus to other members of the team.

If a player chooses to cancel prior to their team's first tournament or prior to December 31, whichever comes first, they will be re-imbursed their registration costs, less $100. If they choose to cancel after that date, there will be no refund.

However, please note, the $150 in fundraising and raffle tickets sales are final upon registration and are nonrefundable.

Phoenix Tryouts and Principles

Policies and procedures regarding rep tryouts will be administered by the Phoenix tryout committee. The committee will hold the tryouts in accordance with the standards that have been established by the committee and will periodically review the tryout process to ensure it is consistent with the goals of GYBA and Basketball Ontario. The Rep Tryout Committee will take into consideration any requests from parents and players regarding the selection of players and the make up of teams. However the committee, acting in the best interest of all players and GYBA will have the final say in this regard. In general, the #1 team will be comprised of the best players (as determined by the committee) in an age group.

Tryout Committee Membership

The Tryout Committee will consist of all the coaches working with the age group and the independent evaluators selected by the Tryout Committee.

Purpose

The Tryout Committee will create teams that are comprised of players of similar ability.

Player Absence During Tryouts

The Phoenix is committed to providing each player the opportunity to play at a level that is commensurate with his or her abilities. Every effort should be made to attend the scheduled tryout session. If a player is unable to attend the scheduled tryout, a written notification must be provided to the Chair of the Tryout Committee prior to the tryout date. The committee will consider players unable to compete in the process due to injury or an unavoidable circumstance for inclusion on a rep team. An injured player must register at the tryout and participate in any skills unaffected by the injury. In addition, the injured player must provide medical documentation of their injury and the expected date at which they can fully participate. To maintain the integrity of the tryout process, the Board will consider injured players only on a case-by-case basis and will consider that player’s history with the GYBA rep program.

The pain of discipline is never as severe as teh pain of regret: when it comes to making a decision between you and the program that decision was made a long time ago.
