Jan. 11, 2008 GYBA - Coaching Clinic and Player Camp
On behalf of the Guelph Youth Basketball Association I would like to thank the Coaching Association of Canada and the Investors Group for their generous support of our Coaching Development efforts. As a result of this grant we were able to bring in one of the top coaching clinicians in the world to put on not only a coaches clinic but a player development camp as well.
On Saturday Jan. 5th @ College Heights S.S. Rick Torbett gave us a coaching clinic based on his shooting DVD with J.J. Redick in the morning and in the afternoon gave us a demonstration of his "Read & React" Offense which hasn't even been published yet as a bonus. He will be publishing a DVD on this offense for distribution this fall but our coaches were able to get it in advance and were extremely enthusiastic about it as it fits in very well with our youth development model and FIBA.
On Sunday Jan. 6th @ College Heights S.S. Rick Torbett gave us a player clinic using many of the drills used in his numerous DVD's. The added benefit here was that we had over a dozen coaches that could further see Rick in action with the players and see what makes him such a great teacher of the game of basketball. His ability to break down complicated skills in an easy to understand manner and build them back up into a cohesive and competitive form is outstanding and I think our coaches really appreciated and learned from it.
The Sport Administrator of the year award was presented by Gabriel Frank of the Investors Group to Pam Baker (picture attached) who is the volunteer coordinator for the Guelph Youth Basketball Association. Her dedication to our club and the time and effort that she puts into promoting basketball as well as our club is second to none. She epitomizes the roll she plays on our board by being the most ambitious volunteer we have.
Once again thank you very much for your consideration in the awarding of this grant. As a very young club (this is our second year) the money is very useful!
